A Bollywood-flavoured party game for grown-up friend groups — one big screen, everyone on their phones, nobody has to get up.
Log Kya Kahenge is a desi, in-person party game. One person opens the Board on a TV or laptop, everyone else joins from their phones, and the game runs three kinds of rounds — bluffing, hot takes, and collective verdicts — all built around one very Indian question: “log kya kahenge?” (what will people say?). Want the full rules? Here's how to play.
We're a small group of desi friends spread across three time zones, and this started at a Diwali party in London where the party game we'd bought bombed. It was written for 22-year-old bachelors — the kind of prompts you can't read out with your mum two feet away and a kid asleep down the hall. Half the room checked out. One of us watched her mother-in-law, who can out-argue anyone alive about whether Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham holds up, just sit there with her chai. That felt like a waste.
So we built the thing we actually wanted to play. No app to download — nobody at a party wants a fourth “just install this real quick.” You open the Board on the TV, everyone points a phone camera at the QR, and you're in from the browser in about ten seconds. It runs on the one question that has governed every decision our families ever made: log kya kahenge — what will people say. Bluff a room into believing you finished “Mere paas maa hai” the right way (Deewaar, 1975). Argue about who'd last longest at a big fat Punjabi wedding. Then watch the group hand down a verdict on someone's genuinely questionable life choice.
We made it for our lot: people in their thirties and forties, kids in the next room, the family WhatsApp group buzzing, one aunty who will absolutely fact-check your Bollywood reference. Four players is the floor — below that the bluffing rounds drag. Six to eight is where it sings. The Masala deck is the one we reach for once the little ones are down, and we house-ruled the “skip” button out entirely, because the person begging to skip is always the one sitting on the best story.
It isn't for everyone. If nobody in the room grew up on Hindi film songs, a solid third of the jokes land with a thud, and there's no getting around that. For everyone in between — the cousin who only watches Marvel, the uncle who quotes Gabbar unprompted — it's the loudest our living room gets on a Friday. We run this in our spare hours and read every email that comes in. Round up five people this weekend, put it on the biggest screen in the house, and see who cracks first. — the Log Kya Kahenge team
